Why does my mouse only work in safe mode?

Help please.. I have spent the past 8 hours trying to get my laptop to work. I have an asus U43 series with windows 7 home edition. I was browsing the internet and my mouse stopped working. I started the computer again but the mouse will only work on the log in page at the beginning of the start up. I restarted the computer again and again but on the 7th time or so, it would only go to black.. Hours later of me hoping it would finally load, I turned the computer off and took out the battery, blowing into it like you would an old nintendo game. This allowed me to access safe mode (finally!) and I got on this site.. Please tell me what's going on.. Normally I'm good with computers, but I've never had this problem before

You say it's on a laptop, so you are referring to the touchpad or a plug-in USB mouse? If the latter, have you installed any third-party driver software that was supplied with it? If yes, uninstall that software and see if the mouse works without it (all mice will work for basic functions using Windows built-in drivers without needing to install any others).

When something works only in safe mode it almost always points to a third-party driver being the cause. Maybe the driver software supplied with the mouse isn't compatible with Windows 7.
