Vista won't go past welcome screen

Windows Vista won't go past the welcome screen on my Compaq laptop. It keeps cycling back to a safe mode option. It runs in safe mode. I've tried to restore to a previous point and to last known good point, but no luck. Unfortunately I do not have restore disks. Any suggestions?

Download the ISO image for the Vista Recovery CD and burn the image using IMGBurn in my signature. Boot off of the newly created CD and choose Fix Your Computer. Get to the Command Prompt and type chkdsk /R and press enter. The Check Disk utility will try and fix any errors.

In the Bios isCD/DVD drive is First boot device, and you have burned the Image with IMGBurn. Then either the disc is not bootable or the CD/DVD drive is not reading it. Try the disc on another computer. If it doesn't boot, then that disc is not bootable. Make sure you downloaded a bootable ISO file. If it does boot on another computer, then the CD/DVD drive on the troubled computer is not reading the disc, try a different drive.
