I just received an acer aspire m5100 from my step-mom. the desktop says it has windows vista, however, when I got the thing running it booted up XP. I am assuming my step-mom installed XP on the machine after she bought it. Is there any way I can get Vista back without the disc>?

The disks are a worthwhile investment (they contain the drivers and the programs that come with the system). That'll save you a lot of work trying to hunt down the driver and applications and installing them.
