Vista not recognising WD 500GB External HD

Old computer crashed a week ago. New one on board with Vista, Nvidia Gforce card, and (Not sure that has anything to do with the problem but I read another post that makes me a bit suspicious) and my 6 mo. old WD External Hard Drive.

Vista recognised it (the HD) for a while but then became spotty and now doesn't at all. Any suggestions?

Hippie,

Have you tried getting an updated chipset driver for your motherboard? This may be a usb driver issue that may be resolved by updated drivers. Try using the drive on another computer as well just to verify that it still works well.
