My System


You could install it on multiple computers, no problem. The problem comes when you try to activate them.

If you have a Retail key, you could activate them both, but as soon as you activated the 2nd machine, the first would lose its activation.

Simply stated, you need a separate product key for each installation.

Let's say I borrow the disc from a friend and install it on my computer. My friend will lose his activation? Does that means when you lose the activation you won't be able to download updates?

Its not the CDs that would cause the problems, its the CD Keys, you can use any Windows 7 install disk but, the activation is done online with the product key. If you use someones key, both keys can be locked out as a pirated versions (not just from updates, I heard after a while of running the computer will shutdown automatically after an hour or so of use). Not exactly sure how Microsoft handles that anymore though.
