I have owned a Compaq laptop with Windows 7 for a year. Today - it no longer allows me to minimize a screen. I am able to open the screen or to close it, but it is stuck in the "maximize" mode. Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks.

all programs?, can you see the "restore down" "minimize" buttons?
try this,

Holding Alt+space then hitting R will "restore down" the window.
Alt+space X will maximize the window, with Alt+space N minimizing the window.

Thanks for the quick response, Kenny. I tried your remedy and had no luck.
(When I hit the maximize or minimize buttons, the screen shakes a tad, but stays at full screen.)

is this in all programs? do you have another user account? (if no create another (admin) account and see if it's ok)

have you got a restore point from before this?

Kenny, this malfunction is only in Internet Explorer.
Microsoft WORD, Freecell, etc. permit minimize & maximize.
I don't know how to create another admin account or check on a restore point.
I've shut down and restarted a couple of times.

control panel>user accounts>manage another account

have you recently used a registry cleaner ? (if yes did it make a backup?)
have you tried a different browser (just to test)

Many thanks, Kenny. I saw the registry cleaner invitation on this screen yesterday and began the process until I saw the offshore location - got suspicious and cancelled.
I've decided to just live with the malfunction and get used to the maximized screen with Internet Explorer. I do appreciate your help though.

start>all programs>accessories>system tools>system restore....if theres not a date on the 1st page pick a different point

good luck

Sorry, Kenny, that didn't work either. I'll just live with it. Really appreciate your help.
