This is a reply to Geek Girls sticky post.

My fundamental belief is that the best registry cleaner is no registry cleaner at all. Most people simply don't need it, and don't need to run one.
Many people reach for a registry cleaner when an application is having problems, or when Windows is misbehaving. The problem is that these types of situations rarely respond to registry "cleaning" - it often requires application or Windows-specific resolution.

Please refrain from advising that members use these utilities.

Thank you

Seems a strange request when the very first thing at top of tech site is an advert for a registry scanner. Me thinks Tech site should follow their own advice first before demanding the readers refrain from suggesting registry cleaners. Also the request is only in response to her own opinion not scientific proof.

We don't have full control over the ads that Google decides to serve, so you may occasionally see ads for things like registry cleaners (especially if you are reading a thread about registry cleaners).

The reason we suggest against using registry cleaners is because of the potential for problems. If the registry cleaner flags something that is legitimate and removes it, programs can cease to function or it could potentially prevent windows from loading at all. The risk is not always worth the gain which is why we discourage it. Also, it was not just Geekgirl's opinion, but the opinion of the management of this forum.

Was there a reason behind this thread or was it just to bash our decision on registry cleaners?
