Suddenly everything went dark...

Well, not everything; just videos that I play on Windows Media Player. YouTube vids play fine, but everything I play in Windows Media Player looks like it's got a think black screen over it. This started about a week ago. I wanted to get my 2 monitors to look closer in Color, Brightness & Contrast, etc. I opened the NVidia Control Panel and made some adjustments and things did look better. But since then when I play videos on WMP they are dark. For some of them, I can tweak the Brightness on Video Settings just a tad and it clears up fine but on others I can't access the controls. (???)

Does anybody have any possible suggestions? Oh yeah, I also loaded the K-Lite Codec pack a couple of weeks ago and wonder if that has anything to do with this issue...

I've attached 2 screenshots of the video as it looks when it's dark and also how it looks after I just barely move the Brightness control. I'm wondering if I should reload my video driver? How do I tell what kind of video card I have in this machine? Surely there's some way of knowing without having to open the case, right?
