[SOLVED] windows 7 general account - can't get a program (f.lux) to work

I'm not sure where to post this, but I don't use my admin account except to download programs and even updating programs I often use my general account.

I downloaded f.lux; however, I can't run in anything but the admin account, which doesn't do me any good. I emailed them and no response. I've talked to others that use it but they don't use general accounts. (Isn't that not as safe as using a general account for most things?)

Anyone know how to use f.lux in a general account on windows?

If not, are there any other simular programs that can be run from a general account in windows?

Thank you.

Re: windows 7 general account - can't get a program (f.lux) to work

Hi Joeten,

No parental controls, I live with my cat and am a senior citizen, no children/grandchildren, etc. + don't want others on my computer and have passwords on each account (different for each).

It's just a regular general account. I doubled checked and parental control is off.

Thank you.

Hi Joeten,

When I downloaded they made clear to things had to be done in admin account.

Didn't work. I think it's locked. Under share with I choose all my accounts (typed the names in) and it's still locked. See screen shot.

Thank you.

You are running this from the Shortcut in the Start Menu. Go to C:\Program Files, or C:\Program Files (x86) look for the Flux program file, it may be listed under the manufacturers name. Here find the .exe file and try right clicking it and Run As Administrator. If that works, you can right click that .exe file and choose to Send To... Desktop (make shortcut) and you would need to right click this shortcut and Run As Administrator when you want to start the program.

Hi spunk.funk,

I have to be in admin to see the files anywhere. When in the general account nothing shows the program file. So I can't make a shortcut to the general account.

Thank you.

Log in as an Admin, Create a shortcut to the .exe file in Program Files, Save it to your general user account (eg) C:\Users\[YourGeneralUserAccountName]\Desktop. Log out as Admin and log in as your General account. The shortcut should now be on your Desktop, Right click it and Run As Admin.

Re: windows 7 general account - can't get a program (f.lux) to work

Hi spunk.funk,

I'm in admin and can't find the program anywhere in C:\Program Files, or C:\Program Files (x86), so I was wrong yesterday thinking I had to be in admin to find the program. I don't know where else the program will be as it's on the taskbar by the clock. I noticed 2 other program not in programs on C:\Program Files, or C:\Program Files (x86) but in the list of programs, users, intel, windows, but not this program.

Thank you

Hi,

I just (after a couple weeks) heard back from f.lux. They said it has to be downloaded to each account separately (admin first).

I downloaded it and it's running now on my general account.

Thank you for all your support.
