Hey,
I uninstalled the software for this but as of now, when I disconnect my laptop from the ethernet cord, all that comes up in my connection manager is "3G Connection" and none of the Wi-Fi networks I know should be there. Any help with this is greatly appreciated.
Re: Sierra Wireless AT&T Card Not Allowing Wi-Fi Connection
I'm in a dorm so I use ethernet here (though there is also a Wi-Fi network as well which doesn't show up anymore). When I take my laptop to class, there is a wireless network that should be there that doesn't show up in my connection manager. Therefore I know they should be there. This has only started happening since I installed, then uninstalled, the AT&T thing. And yes, both ethernet and Wi-Fi are turned on.
Re: Sierra Wireless AT&T Card Not Allowing Wi-Fi Connection
Well then, perform a Win dows System Restore - using a restore point prior to installation of the AT&T "thing".
START | type rstrui - choose restore point
Re: Sierra Wireless AT&T Card Not Allowing Wi-Fi Connection
I have files I don't want to lose since I installed it. It is called a Sierra Wireless 3G card or someting along those lines. Its the USB Internet Card AT&T sells.
Re: Sierra Wireless AT&T Card Not Allowing Wi-Fi Connection
I don't need the 3G card to work anymore, I was only using it for one weekend. I have since installed other programs that I don't want to have to deal with re-installing. Is there no way to reset the windows connection manager to the default to see if that works? Or are there specific drivers I can uninstall? I would like to avoid a system restore if at all possible.
Re: Sierra Wireless AT&T Card Not Allowing Wi-Fi Connection
When I speak of a Windows system restore - it affects critical Windows OS modules only - it does not wipe the entire system clean. It is used routinely in Vista & Windows 7. I used it 2x earlier today myself.
If you find it does not work, go back into system restore and select the restore point that was made BEFORE you did the current system restore.
Re: Sierra Wireless AT&T Card Not Allowing Wi-Fi Connection
Ok I tried going into system restore and it is telling me that a large number of programs I have recently installed will no longer work correctly. This would be why I have been saying I don't want to do a system restore. It does affect the programs I have installed and uninstalled, which is why I don't want to do it. Is there any other option?
Re: Sierra Wireless AT&T Card Not Allowing Wi-Fi Connection
Go to Start/Run and type devmgmt.msc and hit enter. Are there any yellow marks? Is the ATT wireless card still there? If so, right click it and uninstall it and pull the card. Now if there is a yellow mark next to your wireless adapter, you will need to reinstall the drivers. if there isn't then go to the Control Panel/Network Connections. Is your Wireless adapter have a red X through it saying it's disabled? If so, then right click and choose Enable. It will now show up in your system tray and you can browse fro available wireless networks.
Re: Sierra Wireless AT&T Card Not Allowing Wi-Fi Connection
Alright well I did the system restore, it didn't fix the problem so I went back to my most recent state. I have since updated all my driver. I have no error messages. The only thing is when I go into "Change Adapter Settings" I had a 3G connection in there. I deleted this and this made the 3G thing leave my network connection manager. I have no AT&T drivers installed. Right now I have a LAN connection that works. I have a Wireless connection that does not. It has a red X in the bottom left corner of the icon, indicating it has no connection. I tried disabling it, then re-enabling it. This did not fix the problem. I tried running the trouble shooter. It couldn't find out what is wrong. This is the current state of things so if anyone has any suggestions, they'd be appreciated.
Re: Sierra Wireless AT&T Card Not Allowing Wi-Fi Connection
Did you try Enabling it in the Control Panel/Network Connections? If that fails, go to the Device Manager, right click the wireless adapter and Uninstall it. Right click any device in the Device Manager and choose Scan For Hardware Changes. This will start a new hardware wizard, reinstall the driver.

Wow that was simpler than I thought. Good idea Spike. Thanks man!
