Hi, i've just got Vista Ultimate recently but there is a problem, when i close the lid of my laptop computer the screen turns off (as it's supposed to) but then when i open the lid again the screen never comes back on (it stays black forever)! the only way to solve this is to hit the standby button and wake the computer up again or restart the system. this problem only happens when i'm logged on, when i am shutting down the computer (the shutdown screen) i can close the lid and open it again and the screen will come back on. i checked the mobility center and set it so that when i close the lid of my laptop it does nothing but that doesn't help either and i did check for new vista drivers. can anyone help?

some basic specs:
ASUS S96J
Vista Ultimate
ATI X1600 vid card
2gb ram
2ghz cpu
admin
basically a computer that can run vista

Re: Laptop Lid problem

after searching around i found this, looks a little strange but it works (don't know any side effects yet though):
This is a Windows Vista driver problem, to fix it do the following;
1. Open ”Computer management”
2. Open “Device Manager”
3. Expand “System Devices”
4. Right Click “ACPI Lid”
5. Click “Update Driver”
6. Click “Browse Computer”
7. Click “Let me pick from a list on my computer”
8. Un tick “Show Compatible Hardware”
9. Scroll to the bottom of the right hand box and click “Volume Manager”
10. Click “Yes” when Windows prompts you with security warnings
11. Reboot when Vista prompts you to do so
