My computer has been working fine for the year I've had it until a few days ago.
I was using Mozilla Firefox for about a month, and suddenly it would stop responding after about 30 minutes. And then it became about 10 minutes. I thought it was just Mozilla or Flash, so I tried uninstalling them, reinstalling. I also tried using older versions. None of that worked. Then I was using iTunes, and THAT had the same issue. After about 10-20 minutes the music would stop and iTunes would stop responding.
These items would not respond for a few minutes, then begin to respond for about five seconds before "not responding" again.

I switched back to Google Chrome, and that doesn't have the "not responding" issue, but instead after about 10 minutes it will act as though it is not connected to the internet (even though it clearly is). Nothing will load, and it will tell me I'm not connected to things such as Facebook messenger.

When these issues happen, I can't properly restart my computer as the Windows start menu will stop responding once opened.

What could the issue be?

I have Trend Micro, and when it scans nothing comes up as a threat or anything like that.

Malware may have corrupted key system files

The problem seems to be similar to this thread's issue. But I'm running Windows 7 and a few other differences. I don't know how to get that long list he posted in the original post. How can I do that to help out whoever can help me?

I can add that I am a generally smart person with technology. I know how to avoid viruses for the most part, and while I do a few stupid things here and there, I am sure to make sure I don't just blatantly take on a virus. What this issue is, is beyond me.

Just a passing comment.
I'm curious....

1.Did your computer come pre installed with an AV when you purchased it?
If so how did you remove it?

2.How long have you had Trend Micro?

3.Have you checked in Event Viewer?
Type eventvwr in search.
Go to the Windows Logs > Application > in the left hand column.
Note anything in red that relates to the current problem.
Please record the event ID, and the Source Code and tell us what they are.

1. An AV? What is that? I'm only good with simple stuff, not good with any sort of coding or programs.

2. I've had it for a few months. Probably four or five.

3. I am in the eventvwr. I did what you said, but have no idea what you mean by record anything in red that relates to the problem. I'm not sure where the problem is coming from, so I'm not sure how I'd do that. I don't know what you mean by the event ID and Source Code. Sorry for being stupid ha.

Event filter with query "SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent WITHIN 60 WHERE TargetInstance ISA "Win32_Processor" AND TargetInstance.LoadPercentage > 99" could not be reactivated in namespace "//./root/CIMV2" because of error 0x80041003. Events cannot be delivered through this filter until the problem is corrected.

That message appears multiple times under errors in the event log. It is listed as Event ID 10. No task category. The source is "WMI"

Bonjour Service has also produced multiple errors under the event ID "100." They are different descriptions about task scheduling errors.

Just realized that the Bonjour and WMI issues have happened since I had the computer, so that must have nothing to do with it.

1. When you purchased the computer did it have an Anti virus program installed? eg McAfee, Norton.

also
2.What Anti Virus did you have PRIOR TO Trend?

Ah.
1. It came with Norton, but when that expired I got a TERRIBLE anti-virus for free from out school. I couldn't tell you what it was called.

Then I had McAfee for a short period of time before switching to Trend Micro.

Hi Bbetsd, I haven't fully studied your thread or your supplied data but I think JMH3143 was wondering if any previously installed A/V's were actually part of your freezing problems because remnants of them may still be extant and fully capable of causing many problems like yours.

Run the Norton Removal tool as explained here: https://www-secure.symantec.com/nort...edirect_pubweb then, after a reboot, run the McAfee tool: How to uninstall or reinstall supported McAfee products using the Consumer Products Removal tool (MCPR)

How ironic that you made that comment. I googled my issue and someone mentioned that so I'm running that right now. Thanks so much for your help. I really hope this is the issue. I haven't removed those properly.

I just ran the norton removal. After restarting and running McAfee removal and restarting, is there a way to tell if those are 100% gone?

After running both removals, it allowed me to watch a video without failing, but it still stopped responding within 20 minutes.

The output from DriverView will show the 3rd party drivers loaded, set in view so that it hides Windows/Microsoft drivers and it's easier to check: DriverView: Loaded Windows Drivers List

To find the source or any possible updates for drivers, input the *.sys name into the search box at Driver Reference Table it should give you some very strong pointers for all but the most rare or recent drivers.

Can you be more descriptive about what happened just before it stopped responding, what programs and pages were open, etc.?

When it stops responding, it is very sudden. It'll slow down, and then the page will stop responding. When I was using Firefox it would sit at not responding, for Google Chrome it just acts as though chrome is not connected to the Internet. When it happens I can't open any new programs or even the task manager and have to manually restart the computer.

I would have no programs open besides either Firefox or Chrome with two, maybe three tabs open. It also did it when I had just iTunes open. The music would stop and start over and over and I couldn't click anything in iTunes.
