After 2 hours on the phone with Microsoft and a person who barely spoke English, I got nowhere.
What I want to do is for example:
On my Desktop which is running Windows 7 Professional I have a folder called "abc". There are 3 laptops in our household which are also windows 7 but home premium editions, mine, my wifes and another attached to TV.
I want to have all laptops access files and folders on the desktop, except and here is the problem I only want the folder "abc" to be accessible with my laptop and not the other 2. Everywhere on the internet even on Microsft's website it says to do this to have my laptop user account on the desktop and to select the folder "abc" on the desktop that I only want shared with my laptop and click "share with>specific people" and select my laptop from the drop down list and then share and it is supposed to work. I get a message saying I don't have permission to access it on the laptop when trying to access the folder.
Microsoft told me with a home network I had to either share it with everyone or no one, that sharing with only specific people was a feature only for servers, but nowhere in all the reading and watching of videos on the internet does it say I need to have a server to do what I want.
Any ideas please help and sorry this was so long but I was trying not to leave anything out.
