The other day, my laptop decided not to boot. I turned it on in the morning as usual, and the screen turned black, after the Gateway logo appeared. The screen is still on, can tell by the back light. It just wont go past that to the windows password screen.

After 10 minutes or so, the windows checking for errors screen appears. It checks etc.. so I let it go, 14 hours later its still checking for system errors..

Whats your suggestions??

Laptop is Model NV53 running windows 7.

If Check Disk is still running 14 hours later, then your HDD has too many bad sectors for it to fix. Let it finish, if it says there was an error, or it never finishes, then you will need to get a new HDD. You can test this theory by downloading the ISO image for Drive Fitness in my signature, burn the image to CD using IMGBurn also in my signature and boot the troubled computer with the newly created CD and run the Short and Extended tests. If either fails, you need a new HDD.
