Hi..
I have tried to install my canon lide 90 scanner using software downloaded from the canon website as i cant find the original software and basically my scanner wouldnt work so i thought i would uninstall it and re install it.
When i try to uninstall it i get an error message come up....

"processing cannot be continued because the print spooler service has been stopped. Restart the computer to start the print spooler service and then try again"

I have restarted and am getting the same message!

can anyone help?

Start > In the search box type 'Services'
It will prompt you to run as admin, click yes.
Now you'll see a list of services, find Print Spooler.
Right click > properties then change to setup type as 'Automatic' then under service status choose 'Start' and now you should be able to use your scanner.

Hi, when this happens with a printer it is often caused by jobs still held in the print que. Don't know if this applies to a scanner. One other area is to check dependencies RPC. Go to start, search and type regedit. The registry editor will open navigate to:-

Code:
  [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Spooler]
"DependOnService" and post here what you have .

Ok a quick update...
I did a system restore to get rid of the software i installed (a bit extreme i know)
I actually managed to find the original software for the scanner so i installed it and it is working fine.
But i still have the error "Failed to read description. Error code 2."
when i go into the spooler.

I followed your instructions and it says
Type - REG_MULTI_SZ
Data - RPCSS http

Does this make any sense?

Kev.

Hi, sorry, I have problems getting on to some parts of this site. The reinstall was over the top I take it, the same problems would be carried over. When you open services you say the print spooler service is not running, is this correct? A reinstall would have reset the services to defaults so it should be running. Looks like when the Cannon calls up the service a driver incompatabiliy exits. I would uninstall the Scanner use Revo uninstaller and remove ALL traces with this uninstaller programs advanced features. Reboot

Now go here and download the latest Canon drivers:-

http://support-au.canon.com.au/contents/AU/EN/0100007502.html
Make sure you right click on the driver excutable (.EXE) and select "run as administrator"

If the problem continues check this:-

The depend on service from your previous post was correct it should say:-
RPCSS http.

The default reg entry for spool services looks like this:- (check yours)

Code:

ok i am in the beginning stages of my A+ so you will have to forgive me if i dont grasp it straight away..
When i reinstalled i formatted my drive which would remove everything right?
When i go to services it says the spooler is started but under description it says
"failed to read description. Error code 2"

The link you have posted says its for the support of products sold in Australia and New Zealand only, does that matter?
Also the download link when i right click it doesnt have an option to run as administrator.

I have checked the reg entry and it isnt the same as you have posted i have attatched a screen shot for you to have a look at.

Hi, hope I get this one through:-

I wrote a response some time ago however I could not get it to upload. Last try:-

Your reg file is OK (mine shows HEX ) if you were to export the key and save as a .reg then these are the values you would see. I did it that way so we could merge into your registry if needed.

Sorry, doesn't everyone live in paradise!! (Aus & NZ ) the disclaimer is to cover TA should be fine you could find the same driver at Canon in your area, I mean when you download the drivers to a folder on your computer locate the download and right click on it's executable (.exe) to "run as administrator".

I might add that stand alone scanner have caused us Soo much trouble over the years, a three in one printer is around $60 Aus dollars

Well i wish i did live in paradise but unfortunately.......lol!
I downloaded the drivers but couldnt install them as i get the message come up saying the spooler has been stopped and to restart to start it again!

I'll just add that when i reinstalled windows i checked the spooler before installing any other software or updates and the error "failed to read descripton. Error code 2" was there already.
Any other ideas?

Hi, this is most puzzling, you say after a format and fresh install without any added hardware your print service gives a "failed to read description error code 2" is this correct?

Most problems with the print spooler service relate to drivers or jobs stuck in the Que. MS offer no help on this, I wonder if there is a problem with your Vista DVD(scratched or spot of dirt?).

This MS fix reverts Print spooler to defaults worth a shot.(read ALL the info first)

Best of Luck

Ok i am up and running and printer and scanner are working!!
I removed the drive, installed it in my old pc, formatted it, then put it back in the original pc.
Then i installed windows from my disc, checked the spooler and it was still the same so i thought what the hell i'll just plug my printer in and see what happens!
Well windows located, downloaded and installed the drivers for my printer, so i checked the spooler and it was still the same , so i inserted my installation disc for my scanner and it ran and installed!

Happy days!!
So then i installed the rest of my drivers for mobo, gaphics card etc,
Then i downloaded and installed 57 windows updates then my pc rebooted and came back up with the normal configuring updates screen, but when it got to 100% it stuck for a few mins then rebooted again, and again, and again!!
I couldnt get out of this continual reboot loop so i had to reinstall windows again

But now im back up and running i have downloaded the windows updates but am not going to install them until i figure out which one caused this problem, i have googled it and a lot of people have had the same problem with windows updates!!
