Is there any beeps? Froze means overheating look inside your machine is there a lot of dust inside? You might have a dead cpu.

Take out all card, Hard drives, CD-drives. Add one back at a time until the system does not start up. That will tell you which piece is bad. If that does not work you have a dead PSU, CPU, or Motherboard.

 

Is this a laptop or a desktop computer? If a laptop, take the battery out and use just the power adapter to start the computer.

 

This is a desktop packard bell i-media quad core with 4gb ram,
A friend suggested that I re-apply some new heat sink to the processor so have just bought some of ebay and shall try all the other suggestions as well.

 

no there aren't any beeps.And there was a fair bit off dust but not any more.I shall do what you suggested and remove things one at a time,I'll keep you appraised.THANKS.

 

With all that dust mainly on the heatsync and fan, you might have a dead cpu on your hands.

 

yes you are most definitely probably right thats why I've also in the meantime been looking at new desktops(as that one is a few years old and I could salvage the 1Tb hard drive out of it if thats ok)

 

A new cpu might be cheaper. What is the cpu specs? What is the make and model of the machine. We can look it up for you. If it is a custom build what is the make and model of the motherboard? Take your Desktop to a Pc repair shop ask them to look to see if the cpu is dead.
