Almost any monitor will work if it can connect to computer.
I'd worry more about what kind of connector the monitor and graphics card have. Here's the two currently used a lot:

so you wouldn't have to worry about it.

If you have a DVI graphics card, but the monitor is VGA, you can always get a cheap adapter like one of these:

Thanks for the swift reply. My Graphics Card allows VGA or HDMI or DVI so there will be no problem there. I wonder whether I will need a driver for Vista? Thanks again.

Usually they'll contain color profile files, which can be handy. Unless the monitor is really really old (like pre-PnP aka pre 1995), the OS does a pretty good job of detecting its capabilities as far as resolution and refresh rates go, even without a specific driver file - but just get the one above anyway.
