no internet toshiba (vista sp1)

This toshiba satelite pro used to connect to the internet fine both wired and wifi, now NIETHER works. Sometimes it could find other wifi, othertimes not at all. Totally removed the router and modem from the main desktop and reinstalled. Still cant connect. Device manager showed that isatap adapter would not switch on (code 10). I uninstalled then reinstalled, yet still the same. Then I switched off to restart and isatap is no longer in device manager.

Please help I am at my wits end!! my daughter needs it for her home work. :4-dontkno

dont know how long the last session was, as its was our eldest daughter who was using it before she went to uni. now its our second daughter that needs it for gcse's. Was getting local conectivity last night, however not sure since the ISATAP issue. To be honest I am new to vista (and now HATE IT WITH A PASSION) is there some way to reset the whole thing and start from scratch without loosing data??
