I just purchased a custom to order HP dv9000. I ordered it with Windows Ultimate. Once I got it running, I immediatly uninstalled most of the 'junk", including NIS (too much of a hog). I then tried to install the Vista driver for my bluetooth mouse, and got an error telling me that this driver requires Microsoft Vista!! (??)

I then tried to install Microsoft Live OneCare, and that too bombed, telling me I needed either Windows XP SP2 or Windows Vista to install this application!

I was stumped.

After a bit of an investigation, I found I had the 64-bit version of Vista on this laptop! I then found the 64 bit Logitech driver, and downloaded AVG AVPro.

Am I in for a nightmare with this 64 bit version of Vista, or will I be OK as time goes on. I have Intel Core 2 T2700 2GHz CPU and 2Gb or RAM.

you would think so,i am beta testing it and don't really like it,i prefer to have control not have something running in the background and no idea what it is doing
it failed to pick up 2 virus, when i ran avg it picked them up
i suppose it is a good option for the inexpierenced user, but i cannot see many competant users using it when there is superior freeware out there to be had

Thanks dai. Maybe I will just keep the AVG Pro.

I have used Norton since *forever*, but it has gotten so freaking big, slow, and bloated, I swore I would not install it on this new laptop.

I will just let Vista Ultimate take care of the firewall and other stuff, and use AVG for viruses.

Is there something else I should look to install? On my old laptop, I had SpySweeper, NIS 2007, and Window Washer as my "defense" programs. Is this overkill, or should I still use SpySweeper?
