Home Premium - not very premium!

After much deliberation I purchased Windows 7 Home Premium - it arrived today and I've just installed it.

I've been using Windows 7 Ultimate Beta and R/C for the past year or so, and have been very happy with it.

I decided to go for Home Premium, as I didn't need the things like bit locker, domain join, XP Mode, Direct Access, VHD boot etc. As far as I was aware, Home Premium was a full version of Windows, except for features such as those listed above and below:

I wasn't expecting Microsoft to lock down Home Premium completely - it's been dumbed down far too much.

It turns out, Microsoft have disabled a lot of customisation in HP, and most annoyingly Local Users and Groups.

Having investigated further, it also appears the Administrator account is TOTALLY disabled: not even 'net user administrator /active:yes' works (access denied).

I discovered all of this, as I wanted to run my SINGLE USER set up, using my account as standard, and the built in Administrator account for, well, Administrator type stuff.

Pretty typical set up, nothing out of the ordinary.

When windows is installed, you set up a user account - 'Me'

In HP, this account defaults to Administrator.

I'd like MY account to be Standard.

You can't change this, unless you have another account set up with Administrator rights.

How about the Administrator account?

Nope - disabled!

So, in order for me to run MY account with standard rights, I have to create another account (but it can't be called Administrator), and set that with admin rights.

I wasn't expecting this bombshell.

Any suggestions or solutions?

Fantastic, it worked - i figured my account being administrator would not require cmd to run as admin - guess i thought wrong.

I've been able to set my account as a Standard user.

I'm much happier, but still feel a bit short changed.

Thanks for your help
