Factory recovery question for vista 32 HP compaq Presario

Here`s my question.

Is it possible to recover or view files that were not backed up at all before or during the factory recovery?

I`m not talking factory restore, Im talking factory recovery.
My D drive is the factory image partition.

I recently did a factory recovery which apparently completely wipes all memory that was not backed up and restores the computer to its original factory shipped condition.

The harddrive, before the recovery, had some personal information, bank info and whatnot, that was deleted, however, my computer is gonna be sold soon and knowing that people can recover deleted files even after having deleted them, I decided to use factory recovery as well to insure the safety of my info.

I am, now, just confirming that the files are indeed safe.Is there any way to recover them, even after the recovery?

Im running on a Compaq presario vista 32

Hi -

There are many different standards when it comes to clearing and sanitizing hard drives. Some are satisfied with writing zeroes over each byte - 1 pass. Others want 35 passes with variable characters written.

Is it possible that someone could obtain your personal info from the hard drive? Yes. Is it probable... probably not. There is never a guarantee - especially with unknown future technological advancements.

If you want complete peace of mind on this subject - replace the hard drive. For near-complete peace of mind - wipe the entire HDD with KillDisk then re-install Vista.

Make bootable KillDisk ISO CD w/ ImgBurn -
