Delete McAfee
I have a new computer with Win 7 home premium.
It came with A mcafee suite that keeps popping up a window to restart the machine to upgrade to a system they can charge me for.
The marketing technique alone is enough to scrap it.
Control panel cannot delete it . It stops with a window advising to check which programs to delete, but no programs are listed.
How to do this?

Re: Delete McAfee
The usual procedure is to uninstall it via Programs and Features then download/run the MCafee uninstall tool McAfee Removal Tool - Uninstall McAfee
If it isn't listed in Progs & Features then run the installer to see if that helps.
Not sure if downloading MBAM and using ASSASIN in the More Tools section may get rid of any locked files Malwarebytes Anti-Malware - Download.com but you could give it a try after running the uninstaller.

Re: Delete McAfee
Revo may be a safer option than mbam at this point

Re: Delete McAfee
Create a restore point first before running any cleaning tools !

Re: Delete McAfee
Is it reasonable to conclude that Hunter Mode does not work in the free version of Revo?

Re: Delete McAfee
Some guy on here Revo Uninstaller 1.93 download - V3.co.uk couldn't get it to work and no explanation as to why (scroll down the page), but it seems that it should do from the rest of the article (?)
Have you had a look in the Registry to see if the folder is still there to try and manually delete what's left. Backup first though.

Re: Delete McAfee
It was interesting. Revo took it out OK , but I was having trouble with the sound system. The suggestion from ACER was to do a factory default reset, twice. So I did. I did the backup (2hours) to an external hard drive, and when restoring I lost all the software I had put in and all my personal files. The backup file was empty, for what reason I don't know. Maybe I'm too stupid to run a computer.
But McAfee came back and this time control panel removed it OK.
And I got the sound to work.
Thanks again!

Re: Delete McAfee
If you've just used the Uninstall facility in Programs and Features, you will still need to run the McAfee Uninstall tool to get rid of it completely, as any residue could conflict with any new AV you install.

Re: Delete McAfee
The McAfee removal tool must be run to get rid of boot drivers.
Run it more than once if necessary.
