Confused

Hi everyone,

How can I get rid the Floppy Disk Drive (A:) icon from my pendrive?

Every time when I plug in my pendrive to my laptop, there are 2 icons appeared, one is the icon of my pendrive and one is the icon of Floppy Disk Drive (with diskette icon) would appear. It just annoying to see the Floppy Disk icon...

Thanks in advance!

Does you drive have a U3 partition or any other partition on it? Some USB pen drives come with preinstalled software, for example my Sandisk drive has an audio program that
makes a CD-rom icon come up as well as the normal pen drive icon. It is a separate partition on my drive.

I think the pen drive have no partition. It's because when I first bought it, the Floppy A drive doesn't exist. But after it was changing hand to several person, I just noticed that suddenly an extra drive appear. Anyway, the floppy A does have space of 1.38mb. I just don't know why.

I would go to disk management and look there. If you find an A: drive, just delete the partition. Something must have put it on your pen drive. Is anything stored on the a: drive that is shown?

Type Disk management in the start search box and hit enter. The start search box appears at the bottom when you select the start orb (lower left of screen)

I don't like this set-up at all. This stupid little drive is always running something. I have not yet had time to dig into this - so far no luck in removing the gL drive - its there to stay, I think.

It can't be formatted... can't be changed. It auto launches from the U3 "partition". It is called a "U3 smart drive" -

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U3

I don't like foreign apps launching anything. I would never buy this product again. Now I know why a 4gb = $12 and 8gb = 20. I hope MS & ScanDisk Corp figured in the effect on Vista & Windows 7 when these things hit the counterfeit markets and start launching infections.

Maybe file permission settings can deal with this.

Hi, these are actually a great new innovation and they are very secure so no worries there. If you buy a flash drive and do not want to run apps from it then do not get U3. This site tells you more and you can get rid of the Virtual drive.

`

Sorry, but once certain remaining communist countries get a hold of these and begin distribution of their forgeries, I see nothing but trouble ahead for unsuspecting consumers. There is no way to stop the autoplay these idiotic devices contain and God knows what the counterfeits may contain.

U3 / u3-type devices made for/ during the Windows 2000 & Windows XP days don't work with Vista and must be upgraded. This is absolutely ridiculous to have to go through for a 1gb stick that one bought 2 years ago.

Here is info on removing U3 from the flash drive - which I highly recommend.
