After the problems described on this topic
, my hard drive has died. Given how the computer is still within warranty, a technician from Dell will come to replace my hard drive, but I was told he will not do any backup; I have to find a way to do that myself.
My hard drive has 500 GB. I have an external HD with 320 GB. Windows Vista won't boot (it freezes at the loading screen), but I can boot the computer using a CD or using the Diagnosys feature from the computer.
I would like to find some way to make a backup of some of the files within the HD (assuming they haven't been corrupted, of course) to the external HD. This would require some kind of backup software that could be used from a bootable CD. I have been told to use Clonezilla, but given how it can only make a copy of the entire system, and my HD is bigger than my external HD, I get an error message telling me the destination disk is too small.
