I have a Toshiba Satellite A215-S4697 Laptop, with a 160 GB 2.5" SATA hard disk drive and Windows Vista Home Premium. I have purchased a 500 GB 2.5" SATA hard disk drive (Western Digital Scorpio WD6000BEVT) to replace the 160 GB hard disk drive. I need a process using Vista for copying the entire 160 GB hard disk drive (operating system, all programs, and data) to the new 500 GB hard disk drive.
I have previously upgraded a 40 GB hard disk drive on a Compaq Pressario Laptop with Windows XP Home Edition to a 160 GB hard disk drive, using Partition Magic, without any problems. Unfortunately Partition Magic is not compatible with Vista.
I have a Vantec Model CB-ISATAU2 SATA/IDE to USB 2.0 Adapter that would permit me to connect the new 500 GB hard disk drive to my Toshiba laptop, through a USB 2.0 connection, as an external hard disk drive.
Detailed step-by-step instructions would be appreciated.
