WIN 7 pro

The CD/DVD player will not read any media, Data CD Music ( including Software original disks). Upon putting a blank CD into the writer, Window asks to format it, but only as a USB Flash ( Std CD ROM) The Cd music format option is grayed out.

CDrom.sys is the "best driver" LG unit is 'fully compatible'. SFC /Scannow = no integrity violations.

This happens with all filled or new media.
uninstalled, reinstalled, deleted registry key reinstalled, Pwriter is resident in Admin storage mgmt but reflects RAW data system.

Autoplay though selected, does not work. Any ideas?

The laser diodes that read and write media have failed in the optical drive. The Drive needs to be replaced. If you have had it for less then one year, you can return it to the manufacturer for a free replacement. You can test this theory by removing it from this computer and attaching it internally to another desktop computer or by using a USB Adapter. If it still doesn't read discs, it has failed.

An optical drive can fail at any time, just like any other computer hardware. It doesn't matter which brand. You can send it back to LG if you have had it for less then one year to get a free replacement.
