I have a home built machine with an Gigabyte Mother board, 4 GB of RAM, Pentium D 3.4 GHz proc, Zalman 650 watt power supply running Winoidws 7 32 bit with all the latest updates, however, BIOS is unconfirmed. OS drive is a 650 GB SATA with plenty of space (at least 400 GB free) and the CD/DVD Rom is IDE.
My GPU card needed cleaning, so I removed it by disconnecting the Mobo power cable, the GPU powe cable (to the card) and the ATX 12v cable (this was necessary to remove the GPU card).
After cleaning and replacing the card, and assuring all the connectors were securly fastened, I received the above error.
Windows will occassionally get past the start up logo and the screen will go black with only the mouse present (slow start up?) OR the drive light will just be lit solid with the occasional access flicker.
What I have tried:
I have seen some wacky stuff about this error, and the most hilarious, is this bickering thread which has some good info, but everybody is so busy calling everybody else a lousy tech, it's tough to digest.
This computer has killed two other drives (both WD though) becuase I stupidly swapped OS drives back and forth on the same cable. Before this error occured, Windows would say that it closed in an unusual way and how I wanted to proceed, etc. Yes, big clue. I'm guessing this is because my power settings may have shut the computer down or put it to sleep in a way it didn't like.
I know the staus quo response is to wipe it and reinstall, but anybody have any other last ditch suggestions?
Thanks!

What I have tried:
- Ran the OS System Recovery Utility from the Boot disc. Took a while, said it fixed somethings, but still get above error.
- Reverted Mobo BIOS settings to default.
- Tried to run CMD.exe in the syetm recover tools in the Win 7 boot disc for dskchk and run "FIXMBR" or "FIXBOOT", but since I know nothing about DOS, couldn't figure out how to get it to check my SATA drive or past X:\services.
- Tired booting without external HDs and CD's in USB or Rom drives.
- I have been planning on wiping my drive anyway to get 64 bit Win 7 on the machine, but would like one more boot from my C:\ for a quick back up (luckily I back up every other week, so it's not a total loss).
