Toshiba laptop RAM issues

I have just bought a Toshiba Satellite L300D laptop, with 1gb of ram installed, which is a single stick of ram 1X1gb. All the documentation states that the laptop can take a max of 4GB.

I tried to install some more, there are 2 slots for the separate sticks. This is where the problems have come up.

The laptop will only recognise 1 stick of ram as being installed. It does not matter which slot this is in, whether it is the new ram that came with the laptop, or the other ram that I have got (which I might add is also brand new). I have tested all the sticks in another laptop, and they are recognised in that one, just not in the new one.

I have ran the scanner on Crucial.com's site, and this states that I have 1gb installed, with 1 slot empty.

How can I make the laptop recognise that there is the extra ram in there, have also checked the BIOS and this also states that there is only 1gb installed.

TIA

Hi,

I have checked the website and the BIOS version installed is the latest, version 1.50.

Thanks

Re: Toshiba laptop RAM issues

I have just tried the laptop with a sole unit of ram in the slot that was empty when I purchased it, and it will not boot at all.

This means that the slot is faulty does it not?

Looks like the laptop is going back to the shop,
