PSU scratching noise

Hi Folks,

I have recently flashed my BIOS on a Gigabyte EX58-UD4. Ever since I did that my PSU has been making scratching noises. It only does it when The OS is just about to boot, not on power up. The only other thing near it is the i7 1366 but I'm pretty sure it's not the CPU cuz it has no moving parts. This is not a fan thing. It's a scratchy/electrical noise. It also increases when I mouse around or increase the CPU load?

The HD's are on the other side of the case and the sound is deff not coming from any of them. I'm 99% sure it's the PSU. If anyone could shed some light on this I'd be very grateful.

Mant thanks

E

Hi there,

Custom build

Gigabyte EX58-UD4
Intel i7 2.66ghz Quad (8 thread) sockett 1366
8GB crucial ram / 4GB corsair
Silver Power SP-SS500 500w PSU
Asus nVidia 210 silent 1GB DDR3

The only recent change has been the graphics card and the Bios flash up to F10.
It's all been ticking along nicely until now.

Your PSU is poor quality and a PSU should be silent aside from the fan spinning so replacing yours with a good quality unit would only be a plus.
