Need a new Power Supply?

My MOBO blew the other day so I went and bought a new one as well as a new processor. Sadly found out that I have to buy new RAM as well, but thats beside the point. Hooked everything up without the RAM and tried to start it. Got power to the system fans for a split second before it went out. Did this a few times. Now it doesn't come on at all. Rechecked everything over a few times and found nothing loose.

Do I need a new PSU? My old one is 420 watts and came with the case. Its also a 20 Pin type when my board supports 24 pins. I have a EVGA Geforce 7600gt video card.

You may have more than one problem. First of all, check those motherboard posts (standoffs) to make sure you have only one for every screw hole and a screw hole for every post...no more, no less.

I would guess you do need a new power supply for two reasons. First of all the Apevia is a very weak supply, even when new. Second, you need more than a 420 for the video card you are trying to run.

I suggest at least a 550 watt power supply for you and there are presently some 650's (even better yet) on sale right now for about the same price on NewEgg.com.

Here is one heck of a deal:

You can get by with the smaller one (550), but if you are going to upgrade in the next year or so with your video card, then go for the 650 at this price. You just won't beat it IMHO.
