Had to replace hard drive - used Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3. The issue is I cannot connect to the internet direct. No drives are set up and cannot download or save as from a different computer to upload to my lap top. I don't have a cd for the modem(?) in order to connect(?) Any help would be great.

You will not need all these drivers.
Please do this:
Open the Device Manager
Post ALL errors you may have (yellow!)
Right click on the error>Properties>Details Tab
Post the info you find under Device Instance ID

Do this for each error you have

This will help me narrow down the correct drivers for you.

Using my lap top "Ispiron 6000" the only download is Windows XP - I don't have access to the web - direct or wireless. I don't know what you mean by "errors" cause it will only download to my desk top - cannot "save as" to the desk top. I replaced the hard drive and starting with no downloads. mab

On the laptop please do this:

Open the Device Manager
Start\Right click on MY Computer\Properties\Hardware Tab\Device Manager

Post ALL errors you may have (the errorw will have a yellow! or red X)
Right click on each error>Properties>Details Tab
Post the info you find under Device Instance ID

Do this for each error you have.

Does the Desktop have a CD-Burner that you can burn the drivers to CD or a flash drive that can be used to transfer the drivers to the laptop?

go to the Dell support site, enter your Service Tag Number and download the drivers. Be sure to use IE and do not use the Dell Download Manager!

Entering the Service Tag reduces the number of drivers you are offered to just the ones for that particular system

Just download the driver file, save it to a flash drive or to the desktop and burn to CD. On the Dell, double click the file to install

On the list of drivers, click on the driver file:

Then the download button here:

See this for the order they should be installed:

Service Tag: CYHTK91 shows up with 20 files

I have been to the Dell site and I can not "save as" - it down loads to my desktop with no options to save it to the desktop. I not sure what you mean by IE and not Dell Manager -

Thank you

Hi,

I can get you started.

If you have SP3 installed the Device ID is under the Details Tab on the Hardware Properties.

Open the Device Manager
Start\Right click on My Computer\Properties\Hardware Tab\Device Manager

Right click on the error>Properties>Details Tab
A window will open.
You should see numbers similar to VEN_8086&VEN_2027

You need to install these drivers first.
Note: these are not listed in the Device Manager as errors.

Burn to CD or use a Flash drive to transfer them to your laptop.

To install simply run the setup exe. file by double clicking (left) on the exe icon.

Dell Notebook System Software:
ftp://ftp.us.dell.com/utility/R120775.EXE

Intel Chipset Driver:
ftp://ftp.us.dell.com/chipset/R114079.EXE

Please install these drivers in the order given.
Quote:

Ethernet Controller:
ftp://ftp.us.dell.com/network/R85255.EXE

This should get you on the internet via your LAN (Hardwired)

Network Controller:
According to the Service Tag you have an Intel Pro 2200GB WLAN:
ftp://ftp.us.dell.com/network/R155386.EXE

Video Controller, Video Controller (VGA Compatible)
According to the Service Tag you have an Intel Graphics driver
ftp://ftp.us.dell.com/video/R128346.EXE

Multimedia Audio Controller:
ftp://ftp.us.dell.com/audio/R99254.EXE

PCI Modem:
ftp://ftp.us.dell.com/comm/R104087.EXE
Let us know if you run into a problem.

I mena do not click the first download . . that uses the Del download manager and that does not always work well. Click on the Driver file ( see the image in my first post) and then download from there. It should give you the option of Run or save . . choose save.

Do not use FireFox or any browser other than IE ( Internet Explorer )

Bill -

Hopefully I downloaded as mention except >

The ATI gave this message: setup was unable to find compinents that can be installed on your current hardware or software configuration.

These are still in yellow ?
Network Controller: Device ID: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_4220&SUBSYS_27218086&REV_05\4&2FA23535&0&18F0
Vidwo Controller: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2792&SUBSYS_01881028&REV_-3\3&61AAA01&0&11

Is there another name for the wireless card for the Device ID. I'm not seeing it right now. Is it under Device Manager >

Thank you,

mab

Download in correct order - OK - Thanks

For some reason I cannot get the drivers to download as "save or save as", if I click on download it loads it and ask to "install or don't install"

"close, but no cigar"

your support has been fantastic and is greatly appreciated - Thank you, mab

Look in your Add/Remove Programs and see if the Dell Download manager is there . . if it is, uninstall it.

Did you "see" my edit?

The links I posted are direct links.
All you should have to do is click on the link and save to CD/RW-Rom (To burn to CD) or the Flash Drive.

The drivers posted in post #11 should contain all the drivers.

You have the Intel driver for the Video (NOT ATI).
This is why you got the error.

The wireless should be the Intel 2200GB I also posted.
