Hey!

My WD My Book 250GB just got extremely slow, similar to WD My Book Essential 250Gb... Dying? (unfortunately that thread is closed).

It's got a lot of important data on it - but I'd like to copy it to somewhere safe at the normal 25 MB/sec - rather than the now 1 MB/sec which would take weeks!

Has anybody come over a solution since that old thread from 2009?

Many thanks!

Just went for a drink. Didn't know how to deal with the potential loss of all my data.

Girl at the bar: "how full is it?"
Me: "2gb left I think"
Girl at the bar: "that's the reason"

No, that was not the reason. I just freed up a bunch of space and the problem still persists. Anybody know what to do?

The girl knows something. You must have 15% Free space on the drive for it to work efficiently. Backup your data to a different drive.
Run the WD DataLifeGuard for Windows do the Short and Long tests on the drive. It will try and fix any bad sectors. If it fails, then drive needs to be replaced.

Yeah, matter of fact, today the drive was all good again (once I'd freed up enough space).

Amazing - thanks a lot y'all!
