Re: smart failare predicted on hard disk

i'd back up your data immediately, onto cd/dvd's if possible. i've experienced this before and my hard drive failed within a week. you're probably going to need to buy a new hard drive, and reinstall windows. check with your hard drive's manufacturer and see if it's under warranty, maybe you can send it back for a new one after you back up your data.

Re: smart failare predicted on hard disk

@crazy420rc: Sometimes a SMART test does not always show the right thing, even though it may happen. We can not assume this but we can back up the data for precautionary action.

@ammar pro: Please download the diagnostic boot up tool here and run it on your drive:

http://support.wdc.com/download/?cxml=n&pid=999&swid=30

Burn it to a disk and boot up from it. Then run the Extended test and come back telling us whether the drive is ready to fail or not. Also please back up your data now as a precaution to make sure that IF your drive does fail then you will have a backup to run off of.

Re: smart failare predicted on hard disk

You're lucky you got a SMART warning. Quite often, failing hard drives will die with no warning at all, even with SMART enabled. As crazy420rc says, backup all your important data, or preferably clone the drive to another, then replace the drive.

Re: smart failare predicted on hard disk

Whenever you get a SMART error, you should backup immediately, then run the disk diagnostic program to look for any hardware problems and try to fix them. I would replace the drive.
