Hi,

Was hoping someone could assist me on this question. I have a Dell 4700 computer and would like to add an older PATA hard drive that I have. The Dell 4700 motherboard does not have a IDE connector, only SATA connector, actually has 2 SATA connectors.

Is this possible, and if so, what do I need to do. Which cable is needed, or is there even cables to do this. Is there any software needed, or any other piece of hardware or software needed.

Hope I am clear on this.

Thanks:

Is the cdrom a sata drive, or ide. If so dump the cdrom drive for a sata
drive, and put your ide hdd on that cable. You could put the hdd on the
same cable as the cdrom drive as slave, it will slow the hdd down, but
it will still be usable for storage.
They do sell converters, for sata to ide, I tried one once, didnt work,
but Ive heard from other folks that they do work....

Well er Um tap tap tap Yes we can. Add to CD drive (IDE) connection like Manic said But the drive will be slowed down to the speed of the CD drive I have heard and it will have to share the connection adding to further delays IMO. My best answer is to purchase an IDE controller to install in a free PCI slot. It is a piece of hardware. I just bought a Silicon Image IDE controller. It is the SiL 0680A PCI to 2 port IDE/PATA (full name).
Very clear indeed. :)
