A clicking HDD is hardware failure of the drive. If it is not recognized in Setup (Bios) then there is no software that can recover your data.
the only recourse is to send it out to the Very Very expensive Data Recovery Specialists. Most people can't afford this option.

Always have files you can't live without on more then one HDD.

Actually, even if your drive has failed catastrophically, for example, it no longer spins up, your data CAN be recovered at least in part. As Spunk mentions, Professional forensic data recovery IS indeed very expensive. :ermm: There are 2 companies in the US you can ship them to that I know are reliable. Post back if you are interested. Rates start at $225 US and go up from there. Plus shipping from anywhere on the African continent where you are is going to cost you $100 or possibly more due to Customs etc. :nonono:

You can expect to get from 50%-98% of your data back typically. Depending on exactly how your drive failed, this may cost you significantly more money; so you'll have to decide carefully on how badly you need your data back, and what that data is worth in Dollars and Cents. Things like Tax Returns, Irreplaceable Family Photos, etc. are usually why people would pay big bucks to get that data back.

@RichardMoore, you cannot use software to recover files off of a HDD that is clicking and is not recognized by the computer. Only if the HDD is able to be seen by the computer and has not failed, like the OP's, can you use software to recover files.

Just a recommendation for the future: Always: Keep files backed up on a thumb drive, have a system Image of the drive on a CD, create a system repair disk before using any new computer, and finally Dropbox is an easy site to save important files. Therefore, all you need is another Hard Drive and your GOLDEN <----- well, its suppose to be gold...

Excellent suggestions, Superion!! Actually, in the IT world, we are taught to have a MINIMUM of 3 backups of absolutely everything! Sage advice.

@Mr. Nassor: You should consider Professional drive recovery as we have suggested to you. I know of no one in Africa to reliably offer this service (unless Stan you know someone?). You would have to ship to one of 2 companies in the US. It's going to cost you at LEAST $250 US plus International Shipping & Customs; probably another $100 or more. We have a User here in Palestine who told me it's like $300 to ship a drive or a laptop to the US earlier this year.

Good luck to you,:thumb:
