External HD Not Working

I have a Seagate Freeagent M Series 500 GB that my computer says it didn't recognize port, I rebooted and it does not show up anywhere, HD lights up when I put an ear to it I hear nothing am I doomed?

Disassemble the Enclosure and remove the HDD. You can attach the HDD internally to a desktop computer, or via a USB Adapter or put it into another USB Enclosure with a power adapter.
If the HDD powers (spins) up, You can try to recover the files on the HD using the free TestDisk, I have had the best luck with GetDataBack. You will need another drive of the same size or larger to restore your files to. If the drive is cold, and does not spin up, it has failed and needs to be replaced.

Hi there,

If you choose to disassemble the external HDD, keep in mind that it ***VOIDS*** the warranty. Before you decide to disassemble, check Seagate's website to see if you have any warranty on your external hard drive. Hope everything works out well for you.
