So i am an owner of A HP 15-p030nr and it currently has an AMD A8-5545M processor. From my research i have seen it has an BGA827 socket (FP2) but it also seems that these processors tend to be soldered to the motherboard. I was wondering if there was any place that could upgrade it for me considering it is soldered or if it is even possible. Some additional questions i have are, that if i can upgrade it, what can i upgrade to and where can i purchase it, some of these processors seem virtually impossible to find. Thanks for any help!
Theoretically possible but difficult even if using the proper specialized equipment. Realistically, even after finding another supported processor, the cost of replacing it will be prohibitively expensive.
I agree with the others. Laptop motherboards are usually designed to solely support the CPU that was originally installed on them. However, memory and hard drive components are easily more upgradeable. For example, it's easier upgrade from 4GB to 8GB assuming your laptop computers supports up to 8GB of ram and that assuming your laptop currently has 4GB installed.
Well i found a place that will replace it for me, however i cant seem to find places that sell any of the processors that are supported for the socket.
This because it was never intended for the retail market. Was released to OE manufacturers (such as HP) only.
Are you certain the 5757m is supported? It may physically fit the socket, but that does not mean it is supported by the system. Two issues I can think of immediately are BIOS support, and power. System BIOS of most notebooks usually only support a few specific processors and often only the one which came in it. The 5757m will draw nearly twice as much power as the 5545m. I'ld question whether the board's power circuitry will handle it.
Realize that, by attempting to replace the processor in your pc, you will void any warranty left and risk rendering the pc unuseable and probably unrepairable. This for the benefit of a slightly faster processor.
Personally, if the PC does not meet current requirements, I'ld put it up for sale and start shopping for one which does.
Check the list as advised, I don't think you will find any upgrade cpu for that particular board.
