EEK!

Hi,

My Dell won't start up at all. There appears to be power, but when I press the "on" button, nothing much happens. I have checked all connections inside, and all seems fine.

I have done a small YouTube video to show the problem, which might make more sense.

Dell Inspiron 530 won't start up. Please help. - YouTube

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

From your video it appears that your problem may be a faulty Power Supply.

I would suggest that you try replacing the PSU.

Hmm, ok. I did think it could be that, but that fact there seemed to be power getting through made me think it may be a different issue. Once or twice it has actually switched on and booted up, but then fails and does this again. Will try a different PSU and see if this resolves the issue.

The Psu is the one component that can at times if it sits, actually seem to repair itself but the effects are only fleeting. It takes way more power to boot a pc than it does spin a fan and knowing the quality Psu dell uses, they need replacement when new so after they degarde for a while, it becomes even more necessary.

Ok, thanks. The current one is a 350w, can I just put in another similar wattage psu or does it need to be a certain type? I know a little about computers but not enough to get into hardware specifics. Any recommendations please?

Any good quality psu that fits is fine.
