motherboard possibly failing?

okay so here's what happened.
i booted up resident evil 5 and it ran okay for about 3 minutes then all of a sudden it shut off and it would not turn on for about 15 seconds even the LED on the motherboard was off, this has happened before and it was solved by wiggling the NB heatsink around a little bit (to re-spread thermal paste) and that usually fixed it but why is that causing an issue? could the motherboard possibly be failing?

Sounds like you have a leg on your heatsink loose (thereby letting you wiggle it) and you do need to clean off and redo that thermal paste. Do not keep turning it on and wiggling that like you are, or certainly the possibility of permanent damage will occur.
it always wiggled the only heatsink that doesn't wiggle is the MOSFET cooler

Tumbleweed36 has offered the most likely scenario. Your heatsink should not "wiggle".
it always has its just cheap plastic clips with a crap spring holding it in place.
as you cans ee its cheap little push pins that hold it on.
