Hopefully this is the right place to ask, but I have an older (3-4 years) machine that I haven't used in some time.
When I first turned it on, I received the BIOS screen and a message that my CMOS checksum is corrupt. It then prompted me to reset or reconfigure the settings. The machine froze, however, and I couldn't pick either option.
Now whenever I restart it, POST fails. I get no beep. I've tried disconnecting everything but the CPU/PSU/one RAM stick from the mobo, but it still fails. The power LED turns on and the CPU fan starts, but that's it. No beep.
I have two sticks of RAM; I get the failure beeps if I unplug both sticks. Trying with just either sticks gives the same result, no beep.
If I plug a video card in, it's fan starts, but the monitor gets no signal. I have two video cards and both give the same result.
Reseting the battery (via removing it for 10 minutes) doesn't change anything.
At this point, I'm not sure what's failing. Is there any way to find out without having replacement parts to test with?
