My football game(s)
Since regular season is almost over... it seems I'm already dreading withdraws.
I wanted to create/play my own. However I want very basic. So basic that I went to a TRS-80 simulator and created my own game. I went with no graphics and no in game play. It's basically done on random chance.
I do have run, pass, punt and field goal for offense. On run you can lose, have no gain, or get up to 15 yards. On pass you can have dropped ball, interception and gain up to 20 yards.
Punts and field goals can be blocked. To make it easier on me I did 120 plays instead of time limits.
For season 1, I only did 8 teams total(Cowboys, Eagles, Packers and Saints for NFC then Patriots, Steelers, Texans and Ravens for AFC). I did 3 weeks for regular games.
Each game lasts about 15-20 minutes.
It did go faster then I expected so for season 2, I added 4 more teams and 2 more weeks of play(more on this later).
Here's the results:
(Note: I played the top team on all of them with the bottom being the AI)
Week 1
------
Cowboys (1-0) 45
Eagles (0-1) 0
Packers (1-0) 27
Saints (0-1) 07
Steelers (1-0) 24
Ravens (0-1) 17
Patriots (1-0) 23
Texans (0-1) 14
Week 2
------
Cowboys (1-1) 14
Packers (2-0) 20
Eagles(1-1) 38
Saints(0-2) 24
Steelers (1-1) 27
Patriots (2-0) 31
Ravens(1-1) 28
Texans(0-2) 7
Week 3
------
Saints (1-2) 31
Cowboys(1-2) 21
For week 3 after the cowboys lost. The Saints and Cowboys were out of any playoffs. Eagles had to win against Packers to get in... which they did.
Packers (2-1) 21
Eagles (2-1) 38
Texans (0-3) 27
Steelers (2-1) 35
With Steelers winning week 3 Ravens needed to beat the 2-0 Patriots to make a 3 way playoff. Let me tell you in the middle of the 2nd quarter Patriots were up 21-0... yet gave up 42 points after.
Patriots (2-1) 28
Ravens (2-1) 42
Playoffs
NFC and the Ravens got a bye in week 1
Patriots 26 W
Steelers 24
Week 2
Eagles kicked a field goal with 1 play left to win the game and avoided overtime
Eagles 24 W
Packers 21
Almost a flip from week 3. Patriots win.
Patriots 42 W
Ravens 14
Super Bowl 1
Eagles 28
Patriots 56
Patriots win with ease
/end season 1
Season 2 as mentioned I added some teams: Lions and Falcons on NFC. Bills and Titans on AFC
I haven't started season 2 yet. I haven't decided if I want to add more to the gameplay itself yet. If I increase the plays to 160 I may have to make it a little harder to score
Ok... who thinks I'm nuts for doing this??

Re: My football game(s)
Ok week 1 is over. Here's the scores:
NFC
Cowboys (1-0) 38
Eagles (0-1) 35
Packers (0-1) 35
Lions (1-0) 42
Saints (0-1) 24
Falcons (1-0) 35
AFC
Patriots (0-1) 20
Bills (1-0) 28
Steelers (1-0) 30
Ravens (0-1) 28
Texans (0-1) 21
Titans (1-0) 24
I have started working on gameplay version 2.0. It's been bumped to 160 plays. It now has halftime(which means the AI also receives the ball). I'm tweaking it to make it harder on both of us to keep the scores down.
With me as defense I can now rush and sack their quarterback, however it increases their chances of throwing a long one down the field. So there is risk in rushing. Also they can lose yards now(my side already has this).
Me, as offense can now receive penalties(only 5 yards for now).
I'm still earlier in the debug testing. I should have it ready by the Super Bowl... where it will replace first version.

Re: My football game(s)
ok week 2 is done. Here's the results:
NFC
Cowboys (2-0) 35
Packers (0-2) 31
Lions (1-1) 28
Falcons (2-0) 49
Eagles (1-1) 31
Saints (0-2) 28
AFC
Patriots (1-1) 24
Steelers (1-1) 17
Ravens (0-2) 21
Titans (2-0) 28
Bills (2-0) 49 OT
Texans (0-2) 42
I did much better this time around against the AI
Also had the first overtime game... it was a high scoring drama.
I was down 14 points and made the tieing score with 2 plays left in the game.
My overtime rules are each team gets a chance to score. I scored first then they failed... so I(Bills) won.

Re: My football game(s)
Here's week 3:
NFC
Lions (1-2) 21
Cowboys (3-0) 38
Packers (1-2) 34
Saints (0-3) 28
Falcons (2-1) 28
Eagles (2-1) 49
AFC
Ravens (0-3) 20
Patriots(2-1) 28
Steelers (2-1) 31
Texans (0-3) 24
Titans (2-1) 35 OT
Bills (3-0) 42
Another week with an overtime match involving the Bills. (I got both games into overtime but lost the second one).
Almost finished with version 2.0. Believe it or not I have already started on version 3.0 which overhauls the user interface. The first 2 versions scroll the plays(meaning they just get added at the bottom of the screen) where as this 3rd version will display all the information(scores, downs and quarters...etc.) in a set position

Re: My football game(s)
Here's week 4:
NFC
Falcons (3-1) 38
Cowboys (3-1) 28
Eagles (2-2) 27
Packers (2-2) 35
Saints (0-4) 24
Lions (2-2) 35
AFC
Titans (3-1) 31
Patriots(2-2) 28
Bills (3-1) 31
Steelers(3-1) 42
Texans (0-4) 28
Ravens (1-3) 35
Ok, Both Bills and Cowboys lost this week. The only team that is out of the playoffs for NFC right now is the Saints. Falcons are in regardless of week 5...the rest is up for grabs depending on next week. It seems there will be at least one wildcard match here. If Cowboys lose and Eagles win. Eagles are in as a wildcard. If both the Packers and Lions win or lose(matching) then the Packers are in as a wildcard.
Texans and Ravens are out of the playoffs... which puts Titans, Steelers and Bills in regardless of Weeks 5. Patriots are still up for grabs if the Bills lose... which would put the Patriots as a wildcard

Re: My football game(s)
Week 5 is taking me awhile(Been busy). So here is the NFC results only.
Cowboys (4-1) 45
Saints (0-5) 21
Cowboys win with ease...Saints turned the ball over the last 3 possessions which Cowboys scored on. Eagles are out(Even with a win).
Lions (3-2) 38
Eagles (2-3) 35
Almost went into overtime, I (Lions) kicked a field goal on the last play of the game. Packers need to win to possibly stay alive.
Falcons (3-2) 35
Packers (3-2) 42
Another almost overtime. Packers got a touchdown with 3 plays left. If I decide not to do wildcard playoffs then Lions will win since they beat the Packers in week one.
I decided I'll do wildcard playoffs(on both sides) If the Bills and Patriots tie. Bills would have to lose and Patriots have to win to make this happen. Otherwise no wildcard on the NFC side(to balance both sides).
So here's what we have:
NFC playoffs :
Cowboys (bye), Falcons (possible bye), Lions ---IN
Packers--- Maybe IN
Eagles, Saints--- OUT
AFC Playoffs:
Titans, Steelers, Bills--- IN (bye is yet to be determined)
Patriots--- Maybe IN
Texans, Ravens---Out

Re: My football game(s)
Ok, I finished week 5... and regular season.
Patriots (3-2) 49
Texans (0-5) 28
Patriots win as needed. Texans turned the ball over alot(even when it was tied at 28)
Ravens (2-3) 38
Bills (3-2) 28
Bills lose, so Patriots are in as a wildcard
Titans (3-2) 31
Steelers(4-1) 35
This one went back and forth.
Steelers get the 2 week bye(like the Cowboys). Titans and Falcons get a 1 week bye. Meanwhile it's Lions vs Packers and Bills vs Patriots in the wildcard playoffs.
I'm going to switch to using version 2.0 of the gameplay(instead of waiting for the superbowl).
Strange facts:Both sides ended up with the same record
Steelers and Cowboys (4-1), Texans ans Saints (0-5), Eagles and Ravens (2-3) and the rest (3-2).
Season 3 Update:
I've added 4 more teams(2 on each side). Seahawks, Cardinals, Broncos and Raiders. I added 2 more weeks(7 now). This makes 56 games in regular season (yikes!) compared to 12 in season 1. I also did the schedule(still no repeat games). This will take some time to play out.

Re: My football game(s)
Wildcard playoffs happened
Packers 33
Lions 23
Strange at halftime the score was only Packers 7 Lions 3 (low score)
Packers 45
Bills 30
They were tied at 17 during halftime.
Both 'underdogs' won. Odd tidbit: Patriots didn't have any bye last season and won the superbowl looks like they want to do it again...we shall see.

Re: My football game(s)
Oppps, to clarify an error in my last post it was not the Packers that beat the Bills. It was the Patriots.
This week:
Falcons 41 W
Packers 14
Packers were up 14 to 13 at halftime
Titans 46 w
Patriots 33
Titans were winning 29 to 23 at halftime
I'm going to suspend the playoffs and go back and do some more tweaking as it seems I win all the time with high scores with this new version.
