Confused Xbox 60GB HDD Unformatted?

Hello,

This happened all of a sudden: I booted up my xbox then it stayed on the logo screen for quite some time. It loaded to the sign in page and I'm only left to find no profiles. I skipped the profile sign in and went to check on my HDD, it displays that it is a Unformatted Drive. I tried to format it via xbox, only to find that it doesn't do anything. (Just forwards to the progress bar "Formatting Drive..", then reverts back to the select memory device screen.) What in the world is going on? Is there a way to format it via computer? (I just ordered a Data Transfer Cable on amazon.) I'm bummed that it seems all of my saved games are gone, but my priority now is to bring this HDD back to life.

Anyone out there that can help?

Re: Xbox 60GB HDD Unformatted?

That usually means the drive is failing, sometimes they allow you to reformat then fail again but if it won't format at all it's probably failed.
You can try removing and reinstalling the drive to ensure it's not a bad connection.

I was following the steps of this: How to Format an XBox Hard Drive Using a PC | eHow.co.uk

Encountered an error.. "The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error."
I guess this HDD is dead then? .. -_-

Sorry to say, but I think you may just be right :/

Xbox hard drives aren't too expensive but you will have lost your saves unless you stores them on Xbox Live (as a Gold member).
