Re: XBOX 360 Slim Question

Hey mate,

I think the best way to lay a console is Horizontally, but Vertically works well where the console is designed for it (i.e. Xbox 360s).

I am not sure about the need for a Cooler using a 360 slim, but I do know that they are good for use on older 360s (such as the elite, normal, older 360s etc).

Perhaps someone who has a slim could help with the second question.

Cheers,
-Redeye

Re: XBOX 360 Slim Question

I have a had a slim now for around a year, it is vertical. Ive had no problems with overheating. I dont think you should be worried, overheating in the xbox was somewhat solved by the time the elite came out (other errors are quite common).

Best of Luck,
Seal.

Not true Seal.

The Elite has been getting E73 (?) error because of an update pushing the GPU too hard (and overheating) with some of the newer games

Wrong, even though the 360 is depicted as being vertically the DVD drives were not designed for it and scratch the disc.

The coolers for older 360s that mounted on the back on top of the fans and blasted air in as opposed to the built in fans and therefore broke them after time and the broken fans caused massive drag. The ones that go on the "bottom" are okay, but your xbox will be vertical.

The E74 error came from a redesigned heatsink (and horribly at that). The (older) elites rolled out with it and every single xbox 360 has the same gpu, cpu, and amount of ram.

Re: XBOX 360 Slim Question

I didnt know the E74 was caused by overheating ;) (ive only ever seen one). I still dont think additional coolers are needed for the slim model unless you are planning on playing for extremely extended periods of time. The ducts on the side of the slim do release alot of heat and to my knowledge overheating is quite rare. As long as the console is kept free from dust and in a well ventilated area it should be fine.

Wait, according to a guide I found (cannot link right now) that e73 is ethernet port. I forgot what the gpu error was.

Re: XBOX 360 Slim Question

Hello,
I lay my Slim horizontally because there is a smaller chance of it tipping over and breaking, or scratching disks. As for your second question, I do not think it is absolutely necessary to get a cooler. The Slim has an SoC architecture so the processor and GPU are both on one die, with a single fan over it. The processor has a smart technology in it where it can sense when the temperature is too hot and will immediately shut down your console. Consult the manual for ideal temperatures for your console. You will know better if your living environment suitable. As long as there are no extremes, you should be fine, but just check the exact temperatures, in case...
