Resolution problem with xbox vga

I used to plug my xbox to a 50" HDTV using the vga xbox cable. The resolution for the big tv was somewhere in the thousands 1900+ by 1000+. I forget the exact number but it was above 1080.

Now I'm at college and downsized my tv to a Sharp Aquos 20". The max resolution is 720p. When I turn on the xbox the tv says "Not Compatible with this signal". I researched the problem and the issue is that resolution settings are too high on the xbox and I need to change them.

However I cannot access the resolution settings when the tv won't show me anything! I tried plugging a HDMI cable and a RCA cable but the settings are "saved" only with the VGA cable. I do NOT have a spare 1080p tv laying around to go back and change the settings.

Is there a way to reset the default resolution or something close to that. I tried doing the factory reset option using the RCA and HDMI cables but it did not affect the error message.

[EDIT]: the HDMI and the RCA cable both work with the xbox and the Sharp TV but I want the VGA cable to connect to the TV.

Thanks

Hey mate,

You are talking about a component lead when you say RCA aren't you?

Cheers,

Re: Resolution problem with xbox vga

Try this
* HOLD D-Pad RIGHT until blade selection sounds stop, or 3 seconds (You are now at System Blade)
* HOLD D-Pad UP until menu selection sounds stop, or 3 seconds
* PRESS A (You are now in Console Settings)
* HOLD D-Pad UP until menu selection sounds stop, or 3 seconds
* PRESS A (You are now in Display)
* HOLD D-Pad DOWN until menu selection sounds stop, or 3 seconds
* PRESS A (You are now in Screen Format – If you get a “bonk” sound, skip next 2 steps)
* HOLD D-Pad UP until menu selection sounds stop, or 3 seconds
* PRESS A (You have just selected NORMAL Screen Format and have returned to Display)
* HOLD D-Pad UP until menu selection sounds stop, or 3 seconds
* PRESS A (You are now in Screen Resolution)
* HOLD D-Pad UP until menu selection sounds stop, or 3 seconds
* PRESS A (You have just selected 640 x 480)

If that doesnt work try this

- Turn off your Xbox 360, wait for everything to be off (don’t have USB controller cable plugged in).
- Turn on your Xbox 360
- Once you turn on the xbox, after you hear the bong sound, hit Y and then quickly after the right trigger.
- Hold both down. You’ll hear the Xbox reboot.
- Unplug Xbox and replug (from the box)
