Hello all, hoping to determine the problem with my PS3 here. I'll try to make this post as organized and simple as possible
The Problem:
- My PS3 has stopped reading disks. It inserts and ejects disk without a problem, but nothing happens when the disk is in the system. It never loads, but no errors appear either.
- I have tried multiple games and DVDs as well, so the problem is not linked to only a single game or Blu-ray disks, but all disks.
- I have opened up the system and polished the lens in the disk drive, but nothing changed. I thought this may have fixed because my friend and I had fixed his Xbox 360 when it stopped reading disks by doing exactly that. However as I said this has had no effect.
As can be assumed from above I have no problem opening the unit to fix it myself, the warranty expired years ago. A few months ago I had replace the heat sink on the CPU and GPU after getting the "YLOD" , and up until now the system worked as good as new after that self fix.
I have read that I might be able to replace the Blu-ray drive with a new one, and that could fix the problem. However I am not sure how to go about this, and would like to be more sure if that is the porblem or not before I go out and spend the money on a replacement Blu-ray drive.
