Problem with pinging my computer's ip

Hi,

I have a linksys wireless router connected to a motorola cable modem. My Laptop connects thorugh wireless 802.11b protocol. I have a Lenovo Z60m. I am able to connect to the internet, but offlate i get "Page cannot be displayed" error when i try to connect. If the refresh the page again, then the page shows up. This happens to even sites like google.com. I tried to run network diagnostic tool in windows xp and it showed that my laptop's ip isnt responding to the ping requests.

I tried the Ping <computer's ip> option, and the request timed out. however, i am able to ping the 127.0.0.1 ip, as well as the gateway ip.

I switched off the modem and the router and switched it on, but nothing seems to be working.

Also, i tried to connect directly to the modem, without the router, and the pages don't show up then. I am able to access the internet only through the router.

Any pointers regarding this will be appreciated.

Thanks.

My System

Well, the direct connection to the modem probably failed because you didn't power cycle the modem when changing the connected device.

The other description sounds like either you're experiencing dropped packets or have malware/spyware. You can visit www.dslreports.com and run their PING tests to see if you have dropped packets, and spyware/malware scans should identify any potential issues there.
