Slow Wireless Connection
I have a Linksys 300n router connected to a Motorola cable modem to Comcast.
I have 2 vista PC's connected wirelessly. I use channel 6, and use WPA security. I also have a vonage phone connected thru a wireless bridge, TIVO wireless and a wireless Epson printer. All have very strong connections to the network. One pc is a DEll with a wireless card, the other is a desktop using a Netgear WNA 1000.
When I connect the laptop directly to the cable modem I get speeds of 25mbs. When I connect the laptop to the router by cable the speed drops by 20%. When I connect wireless the speed never goes above 17mbs and is normally in the 7 range. It can go as low as 96kbs.
I have had Comcast here several times and they do the direct connection and say the problem is my network.
I live in a 100 unit condo complex. A neighbor connects thru a wireless router, same modem type and his speeds are always in the 20mbs range.
I am at a loss.

Re: Slow Wireless Connection
Download and run this Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector, paste a screen shot of the Network screen here. Note that this application requires NET Framework to run. If you get an error about a missing function, download and install NET Framework.
To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file. To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here.

Re: Slow Wireless Connection
WOW, you have a very crowded wireless spectrum, doubtless why you're having issues.
You need to click on the Networks link in the upper left and post that screenshot so we can see all the networks, some are hidden.

Re: Slow Wireless Connection
Here's the picture at 9:55 PM. I tried the wireless bridge on the laptop and it is about 40 ft from the router and it gets speeds of 20+. This desktop is about 15 from the router and today I got speeds of 17 but tonight only about 7. The desktop is wireless.

Re: Slow Wireless Connection
Truthfully? I'd run a wire, I'm not sure you'll ever get a decent wireless connection in that environment!

Re: Slow Wireless Connection
Thanks for your time and advice. I'll move the router and modem to the desktop.

Re: Slow Wireless Connection
You'll be much happier that way. You must live in a very crowded area, that's a LOT of wireless networks!
