If I subscribe to a satellite internet service - looking at one of the 18" options - can I put the dish inside my house, so that it is not visible from outside? If there will be a loss in signal strength how much would I loose?

you will lose signal strength but it can be done. Theres no way to tell how much you will lose. It would depend upon the signal strength in your area.
Theres lots of info about this in google. just use install satellite inside as keywords.

As see the following for restricts on installing.

I'm going to guess that you will not be happy with the results! Since even rain screws up the reception at times, having a house in the way will be a serious problem!

The only way I see this being somewhat effective is having it in a window.
