Internet drops on my desktop

Hello I'll be playing games and on skype and my Internet drops all the time and I'll lose connection and lag in games quite often. My friend said my signal is very weak but my desktop is directly connected to my router and modem and this weak signal is the same for my laptops I also had my Internet speeded up from 10 to 15 and still have this problem I need help I am connected through cable.

Have you looked on updating your router's firmware? You may download the firmware from the manufacturer's site.

Never heard of that I'm not computer smart at all I told my friend about my problem and he said e called his provider and they did a router test and then sent him a new one and it's all better now so I called CAS cable and told them my problem and they said call back tmw and they will rub a test so I'll see how it goes and tryto so this firmware?
