Mozilla Runs MUCH Slower than Internet Explorer ???

I have had the hard-sell, the soft-sell, the Celebraty product endorsement, the personal testamonials and the technical reviewers ALL tell me how much better Mozilla is than Internet Explorer.

I ignored them all, much like I do the bald-headed kooks that try to sell me flowers at LAX.

Nuts, kooks, whackos and Republicans, all.

Until recently I read a review of Mozilla extolling it's virtues and how it was FASTER than IE, used less resources and practically strapped the User into a rocket-propelled Internet jet-fighter.

So that, plus some other guy in another review ALSO had to evangelize me on the spiritually enlightened qualities of Mozilla, I downloaded it and installed it.

When it finished installing, I briefly looked around to see if there were any fragile objects nearby, in order to secure them so that they would not be thrown to the floor as Mozilla launched for the first time. Seeing none, I hit the "Fire" button, with no small amount of trepidation.

IMMEDIATELY, a large grey half formed window appeared, and then it stayed

and stayed

and stayed.

And just when I thought perhaps the system had frozen, and perhaps I should hit alt+ctl+del to find out if it was "not responding", the begining of a graphic appeared. It hung there for a moment, and finally the first bits of color started to appear.

From all this, you get the idea. This thing is a dud round. I can get through three3 IE windows in the time it takes to complete one Mozilla. It's like my cable connection went "dial-up". It makes me sleepy, just waiting on it.

Nuts, kooks and Republicans. I never trust any on them.

So is it the OptiPlexisaurus ? The inadequate RAM ? Are there saved pages that have to be "built up"? Maybe it doesn't like my interior decor ? I'll take down the Velvet Elvis (in the flaring white bell-bottoms, and the upper lip curled in contempt) if someone can help me to make Mozilla even AT LEAST as fast as Internet Explorer.

Nice rant!!

Sometimes on first installations you can hit Firewall problems, so that needs to be checked and addressed, the usual give away is 'The document contains no data'.

Your explanation of start up speed is far from the norm let me assure you! Firefox sometimes hasn't the opening speed of IE (until you start tweaking with pre-poaders and settings that can be tweaked too) but once loaded is really quick.

Once installed you can now pick from 750+ extensions to enhance the tab browsing experience.

In a month or so, Deer Park 1.1a will be released as Firefox 1.1 and the pre release version that is available now is already quicker than Firefox 1.0.4

Persevere for another sortie!

Dont hate the Player hate the Game...

It must be a bad installation attempt of FireFox... Uninstall FireFox, reboot, Install FireFox over at http://www.mozilla.org/. FireFox is very much faster than IE, although it has its times of not performing consistently for the time being

major tweaks available too ....

Thanks for both replies!

Thanks. I was particularly proud of it myself on that one. I really liked the Velvet Elvis reference, with the curled upper lip.

Trivia Question:
From which, really cool computer game did this image come from ?
Bonus points for those that extoll the virtues of this game to the uninitiated.

PandaHater, thanks for the suggestion about re-installing. I was wondering if that could help. After Mozilla cratered, I ran (for no particular reason) a newly-installed A-squared scan of the system and Low-And-Behold, it found 3 malwares that got under AVG's and Ad-Aware's radar. Two different varieties of "Wild Tangent" and a third that I forget. It fixed all three.

I wonder if the existance of the malware caused Mozilla to choke.

Also, I don't understand the meaning of your use of the words "over at" followed by the link. I downloaded and installed Mozilla for "somewhere", does it matter from where ? Is it possible I got a red-haired, stepchild version of Mozilla that was scientifically designed to run SLOW on a system, so as to "encourage" adventerous computer Users to get back into the fold of Microsoft and stop trying to improve their computing experiences ?

I'll do as you suggest, and come back here to rant and report on the new installs success or the lack thereof.

Any time you download a program from a site other than the manufacturer's you run the risk of somebody having tampered with it, or having added malicious code. It only makes sense to d/l a program from the people who made it.

It sounds like the problems you're having stem more from your own system then from the program itself though. I would suggest uninstalling Firefox and then make sure your system is clean.

Sounds like you've already got Adaware, is it updated? Get the latest version of Spybot S&D, and follow the directions provided here to install & run it. When that's done follow the directions on the same page to create a HijackThis log. Post that log in the Security Forum->HijackThis Log Help, and have one of the security techs take a look at it. After you make sure you're clean try reinstalling Firefox from here, that way you know you're getting a good copy.

Good luck!

RM

Mozilla Firefox is 10 times better than IE, now with the release of IE 7.0 I don;t know it coulde be close seeing as how IE realized how much they were pwned by Firefox's Multi-tabbed browsing and download manager and other handy features. I am sure IE 7.0 will use and optimize those features to the best of their ability.

From all I've read about IE7, it is essentially an XP only IE browser with tabs.

There are far better IE based browsers about now, Slim Browser, Maxthon, DeepNet Browser, Crazy Browser, Avant and even BTYahoo (lol) to name but a few, and they've all had tabs and better security for some time.

Mine is startin to get slower to and is usually not responding, usually it stops working at xanga.com but works fine enough where I can type in this. Not long ago I re installed Mozilla but I never rebooted, so when I do do it Ill remember to reboot, doubting itll help.

On initial startup it is definitley slower to load then IE is, but I like better overall. The look & feel, the way the menus are set up, the different features... Gives ya that warm & fuzzy that IE never will.
